First portrait (unfinished) by a painter who gave up because she refused to pose.

We it later in daylight when the mother and Heloise see it. Because Heloise doesn't like it, she defaces it. The portrait is cropped so we can focus on the face.

After Marianne finishes her first painting of Héloïse, she goes off to find the first, imcomplete portrait. It's standing backwards against the wall, She sneaks around the house holding a burning candle for light. Why does Marianne bother? Why does she need to see it destroyed? By fire? Is the a portrait on fire? Is there more than one?

Wind blows the candle.

And then she destroys the first potrait.
