Which shot is better and why?
Four questions we will be asking in this course (the answers are not meant to be exhaustive):
1.What does "finding" mean? Finding as Foraging, Searching, Hunting, Looking Around, Discovery, Exploration
Finding what you're looking for; faking something by accident; finding followed by confirmation of what you already know;
2. What does "footage" mean?
Found footage can be unrelated to the film in which it appears; it can be fake, made up for the film, or a documentary (in all cases we are supposed to think the footage is "true" (F for Fake); it can be missing film from the extant cut and used to make a restored more complete cut (three versions of Metropolis); it can be a film-made-within-a-film (Human League music video and Argo); it can be analog film, like home movies in that are digitized (Sinister 2021). Sometimes it's a polaroid photograph or a videocasette, as in The Ring (1998). Often these analog films are silent. Silent films often have two or three soundtracks; Or footage can mean stock footage used as needed in a film to save money; or it can be selected for artistic purposes (Bryan Ferry's 2022 music video, "Fooled around and Fell in Love".) Or it can be a reused film (F for Fake) or it can be a film made in the film (or footage shot and sold within a film; or it can be a sound recording in a film.
3. What is a cinematic paratext?
a. Opening and end title sequences (integrated; above the line; below the line; bloopers---see Transformers; sequels)
Crank end title sequence 0:46 (action films often do interesting things with subtitles for foreign languages or for a deaf mute character; Walkabout end title sequence

5. What kinds of creativity are needed and reassemble a film in a music video:
