Katherine Ashley (Kat)
Jessica Winthrop-Oney
Katherine Ashley was born in the late 1400's and died sometime in the 1560's. She was a governess to Elizabeth as Princess and Woman-of-the-Bedchamber to Elizabeth as Queen of England. As her friend, she aided the Queen and the court in personal manners.
As Queen Elizabeth's former governess, one of her servants was Robert Southern. Southern brought up Arthur Dudley. When Dudley was 5, Southern took him to London and placed him in the care of Katherine Ashley's husband, John Ashley. Under the care of Katherine and John Ashley, Dudley was taught Latin, French, Italian, fencing, music, dancing, and the principles of English law. Katherine Ashley was commonly known as Kate.
