I am not on canvas.
You will not receive better than a "C" in the course if you do not attend and participate in class. So even if all your written work is "A" level (or "B") but you have not participated in class discussion, you will receive a "C" for the course.
FINAL GRADE: Papers 25 percent; Discussion Questions, BIG WORDS, and Journal Entries 30 percent; Class Quizzes 20 percent; Co-leading Class 10 percent; Class Participation 15 percent.
Please read the Attendance and Class Participation Policy and how your final grade may be effected.See Attendance and class participation policy and how your final grade will be effected by absences from class.
Well, there are no prerequisites, but since it is a senior level class, I expect that you know how to how to follow directions, how to write a persuasive essay.. This is not an introductory composition class. If I need to explain to you the funamentals of composition when we meet to discuss your paper, you'll get a "C" or less.
Grading on papers
If you don't put your name on your paper, it's an automatic E. If you don't have a proper title, it's an automatic E. If you don't have a thesis, it's an automatic E. One third of your grade will be based on your title; one third on your thesis; and one third on the rest of your paper.
A to A- =a title that accurately describes your paper; followed directions, like putting your last name first in your word document (as in Bush.doc); a very strong thesis; well-written and well-organized; insightful analysis using film terms (kind of shots, length of takes, the mise-en-scene, focus, camera movement or lack thereof, lighting, camera angle, and so on); no typos. Memorable.
B+ to B- =a thesis that is clear but not as convincing as it needs to be; followed directions, like putting your last name first in your word document (as in Bush.doc);good analysis but without film terms; a few problems in writing and organization; a typo or two.
C+ to C- =no title at all; didn't followed directions, like putting your last name first in your word document (as in Bush.doc); unclear or weak thesis; plot summary; absence of analysis; poorly written and poorly organized; many typos. A C or C-, assuming you are trying to do well, means that you probably shouldn't be taking this class. If I have to tell you anything on this page (like using the present tense), you'll get a C.
D= no thesis; badly written; you should probably drop the class.
F= you should definitely drop the class.
Here are examples of A work and failing work.
